So many of us experience dryness. A lot of the time, it can lead to other problems with your skin if not dealt with. From breakouts (thanks to clogged pores and access buildup) to the exaggeration of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Situations like this can totally be avoided if you give your dry skin some TLC.
Here are some tips and tricks to help solve your dry skin issues
1. Use superstar ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid or Squalane for moisture retention
hyaluronic acid, a molecule that acts like a moisture magnet and is known to attract and hold up to a thousand times its weight in water. Its lightweight texture makes it a great option for oily types too. Another big helper? Squalane which mimics your skin’s natural oils, making it an excellent emollient. It’s also a natural antioxidant.
2. Watch your water temperature
Intense heat can disrupt your skin's natural barrier that's designed to lock moisture in, so make sure the temperature of your shower/tap water that you're putting on your skin is just warm enough to be comfortable. As well, after you wash make sure your skin is still damp before you apply your products as that drastically aids in binding/absorption.
3. Incorporate gentle exfoliation
No matter how many serums and creams are applied, dry skin will stay dry without some light exfoliation. Opting for gentle exfoliants 2-3 times a week will help refresh that top layer of skin without damaging the epidermis or causing more irritation, and therefore helping your moisture-rich products absorb.
