From Summer To Fall: Transitioning Your Skincare

The changing of the seasons is a good time to reassess our skincare routines.

Our skin actually recognizes climate changes, reacting to regulate to its needs. With this, it's important we understand how to best support it through the changes.

Summer might have caused some damage that needs repairing, think UV rays and chlorine from swimming pools maybe even some congestion from sweat and oils. Dealing with these will be the first step before addressing any changes from the fluctuating climate.

It's not uncommon for those with seasonal allergies to notice flare-ups during this in-between time and with the cooler temperatures, use of indoor heating and other environmental irritants, skin may start to feel dry, flaky or just generally unbalanced.

 EXFOLIATE LESS

It might be worth cutting back on exfoliants during cooler months.

In Summer, with increased oil production, sweat, sunscreen and heat it may have felt necessary to exfoliate more regularly. As the climate changes, we might want to reach for more gentle exfoliants and less often.

Generally, once a week should be enough but you can adjust the frequency depending on how your skin feels.

Josh Rosebrook Daily Acid Toner - Promoting a visibly refined, bright, and hydrated complexion. The unique, ph-balanced blend acids—clarifies and exfoliates, while sea kelp and Irish moss impart a hydrated glow. Hyaluronic acid and aloe vera leave skin feeling supple, never stripped.

Monastery, XX Rose Glycolic Gel - A dermatologist tested exfoliant harnessing the powers of fruit derived glycolic acid to gently resurface for soft, clear and bright skin

10% glycolic acid is suspended in an ultra-soothing Rose water base to keep skin hydrated and calm as you rid yourself of dead skin cells and build-up.

HYDRATION

Those lightweight lotions from summer might not be giving you the moisture you need in cooler temperatures. If you have oily/ blemish-prone skin, you might find that lightweight hydration is the way to go whatever the weather but those with combination/ dry skin might need richer creams that help to restore our moisture barrier.

Jao Face Creme - A reparative night cream clinically tested to target the specific concerns of thinning skin, fine lines and dehydration. Let this lock in moisture whilst improving elasticity and plumpness!

In addition to this, it will be worth bringing any hydration-boosting serums from your summertime routine along for the ride. We can benefit hugely from the hydrating serums in the cooler months (even more so than in summer) as their molecular weight is less, helping them to reach the deeper layers of skin.

The Wilds - Simple Serum

KEEP UP WITH SPF

The suns ray may not be as strong at this time of the year but they can still cause damage and keeping up with daily SPF in cooler months will help it become habitual, so you're protected whatever the weather.

Find one you like and layer it on, approximately 15 minutes before sun exposure.

Forah Everyday Mineral SPF -  an ultra-hydrating and clean non-nano zinc sunscreen for the face, Packed with powerful antioxidants and soothing oils which work together to protect and nourish your skin while encouraging a youthful glow

MASK UP

If you can, set aside some time for a cozy evening in and treat your skin to a nourishing mask. Look for moisture-boosting masks that work to protect and replenish skin.
